Overcome the Fear of IIT JEE Exams

Almost many students get nervous when their exams are near. Especially the students who are going to give their JEE-IIT entrance test. Exam fear starts with the announcement of the date and runs till the last day. And who would forget the previous day after our exams, when we felt like we have got wings to fly! What an ecstatic moment, as If there was nothing more other than completing our exams. You may be struggling, sleep-deprived, anxious, and depressed.

Don’t worry! Just take a chill pill. Exams help us evaluate our knowledge and understand how well we can apply whatever we have read to solve problems. Try to possess a proper and positive and proper attitude towards examinations which will help you stay calm.

Here are some tips to overcome the fear of the IIT entrance exams and Board exams.

1. Change your mindset about exams.
2. Commit to a study schedule.

Change your mindset about exams

JEE and Board exams are an opportunity to not just show your teachers and parents, but yourself, how well you understand the topics and the effort you put in during the preparation. Instead of asking  – “what will come in the exam?”, try asking “how deep is my understanding of the topics in the syllabus?” and my concept

By focusing on a positive goal, you are more inclined to remain focused, giving you a better chance at preparing without fear as compared to stressing out and getting worried about the exam.

Commit to a study schedule

You should have defined study sessions to ensure you are building your knowledge of the subjects instead of cramming it all at the last minute. It will avoid unnecessary fear when JEE and Board exams are approaching.

Don’t give up in the middle

If you know you are behind in the preparation (having backlogs), don’t use this as an excuse to not do any preparation for the exam. If you know you have struggled and are nervous, take a moment to honestly reflect on your performance in the tests to determine the most likely outcome and what you can do now to perform to the best of your abilities.

Focus on the present, Do something now

Instead of worrying about the future, focus on what you can do right now to improve your odds. Regardless of your performance in the class or batch, up until now, focus on making better decisions now. Go take out your coaching modules, books, and notes so you have them ready for your next study session.

Summary:

1. Feel confident and stay optimistic.  
2. Create a timetable for every subject and follow it religiously.  
3. Don’t postpone revision. Finish it before two days of the exam. 
4. When you are not able to focus, take a few-minute break. Go for a walk and then begin to study. 
5. When it is a complex topic, discuss it with your friends or draw flowcharts for easy remembrance. 
6. Eat properly, and only this will ensure proper physical and mental health. 
7. Practice meditation to increase your concentration. 
8. Highlight important points while reading, which will help you during revision. 
9. Make flashcards with essential points that will make studying more enjoyable. 
10. Never postpone practicing a complicated problem. Get help from teachers or friends and learn to solve it.
