How To Revise For NEET UG 2025

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test-UG (NEET UG 2025) is slated to be held on 4th May, 2025. The nationwide exam will be conducted in 13 languages, and over 23 lac students are speculated to write the exam. And, just a few days back, the registration window for students to apply for the exam opened up, with 7th March 2025 being the last date for filling up the NEET UG 2025 application. In the frenzy to fill out the application form, do not forget that the time has come for you to revisit your NEET preparation strategy. 

By the time you realise it, you will already be standing at the gate of the exam venue. To avoid such a dramatic realisation, it is advised that you consider revising your study materials and take up rigorous practice sessions. In this small guide, the aim is to help you prepare for NEET UG 2025. You must know how to organise your revision strategy to perform well in the exam. 

1. Go back to the NEET UG 2025 syllabus  

By now, you must have spent enough time learning and practising for the entrance exam. It is time you revisited the NEET UG 2025 syllabus, double-checked the sections and highlighted which sections you have prepared. 

While reviewing the syllabus, identify the sections where you need to focus, the sections you have missed covering, and the sections you have been excelling at. Also, keep in mind to memorise the pattern around which the questions will be asked. 

The official NEET UG 2025 marking scheme involves +4 marks for every correct answer and -1 for every incorrect answer. The duration of the paper is 3 hours and 20 minutes, within which 180 questions are asked. 

Keeping in mind the pattern, your revision should centre around Physics, 50 questions, out of which 45 questions are to be attempted, Chemistry, 50 questions, one out of which 45 questions are to be attempted, and finally, biology, 100 questions out of which 90 questions are to be attempted. 

2. Identify the most important topics in NEET UG 2025

Revision is more about orienting your focus on things already learnt and strategising the most practical way to maximise results. Of course, you would be learning everything there is in the syllabus, but you must smartly zero in on areas popping up the most on the question paper. 

Based on the evaluation of the NEET UG previous years’ question papers, the most important topics in Biology include Digestion and Absorption, Biological Classification, Plant Kingdom, Biomolecules, and Anatomy of Flowering Plants when it comes to Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Organic Chemistry, and Hydrogen. Finally, Physics, which is often regarded as the deciding factor, features many questions from Thermodynamics, Motion in Straight Lines, Waves, Kinetic Theory, Gravitation, and Units and Measurements. 

3. Pick up those NCERTs again

It is common knowledge that NEET-UG exams are based on the textbooks by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Class 11 and Class 12 NCERTs are extremely helpful in clarifying the basic concepts of Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. 

While your NEET coaching would have provided you with study materials, nothing can replace NCERT’s simplification. In addition to mock test practice, you must solve all subjective and objective questions from good NCERT textbooks. You will have all the basics at your fingertips to speed up your revision process. 

4. Practice NEET UG mock tests

For your ultimate NEET UG 2025 preparation, mock tests will be your greatest helpers. Whether it is NEET or IIT JEE, students are always strongly advised to practice mock tests as much as they can. Mock test practice becomes all the more important when the date of the exam is close. 

Unless you want to go back to books again and learn the old concepts again, it is time you start testing your knowledge of the sections. You might have a significant amount of syllabus left to be covered. But that does not mean you should completely sideline the concepts you have already learnt. 

Pick up mock tests from your coaching institutes, from credible test series, and practice them every week. The more questions you practice, the better it will be for you, as mock test practice enhances memory retention. Remember to do one thing, however. Attempt these mock tests in a time-bound setting so that you learn to manage time well. 

5. Create short notes 

A friend of mine who successfully cracked the NEET UG exam used to create short notes on sticky notes every time she finished a topic from the syllabus.  Her wall was just a huge display of colourful sticky notes on the day of her exam. She told me later on that the short notes helped her remember the keywords from the important topics. They effectively assisted her in remembering the concept. 

NEET UG 2025 will not be an easy one. You will be competing with an incredible horde of aspirants who are preparing with you right now. To ensure the retention of your knowledge, you must create short notes. And you need to write them on sticky notes. But, wherever you wish to write them, make sure they are visible to you. 

A few tips to enhance the workability of short notes include using a colour scheme for making notes, using highlighters to highlight important keywords. 

6. Goals for NEET UG 2025

While you must have set a few goals at the beginning of your preparatory phase, the goals I am asking you to make are quite time-bound and specific. You are already in a state where you orient your attention to short-term and long-term goals until your final day. 

Your short-term goals should include the revision of topic-specific questions from each section. For instance, you should make it a habit to revise freshly learned topics weekly or bi-weekly. 

On the other hand, your long-term goals should include a number of important deadlines such as mock test practice, completion of syllabus, and scoring a desired score in mock tests.
